About ClaimCure
Independent restoration cost auditing, protecting homeowners from overcharging since 2024.
Our Mission
ClaimCure exists because homeowners deserve an independent advocate when dealing with restoration contractors and insurance companies. The restoration industry is opaque by design: estimates use technical codes, damage is visible but hard to scope, and the work happens during the most stressful moments of a homeowner's life.
We audit restoration estimates against Xactimate standard pricing - the same software that contractors and insurance companies use. Our analysis is independent, data-driven, and specific to your city's cost-of-living. We tell you exactly what's fair and exactly what isn't.
The Problem We Solve
The US restoration industry processes over $200 billion in claims annually. Conservative estimates suggest that 15-25% of this - $30-50 billion per year - consists of overcharges, ghost fees, and billing fraud. Homeowners pay the price through higher deductibles, increased premiums, and out-of-pocket costs for services they never needed.
Ghost Fees
Ghost fees are charges added to restoration estimates that have no corresponding Xactimate code and provide no legitimate service. Examples include "Emergency Access Fees," "Moisture Monitoring Surcharges," and "Decontamination Certification Fees." These fees can add $500-$3,000 to an estimate with no justification.
Inflated Xactimate Rates
Xactimate publishes standard rates for every restoration task. But many contractors charge 150-300% of these rates, knowing that most homeowners and even some insurance adjusters don't check the math. A simple line-item audit catches this immediately.
Scope Inflation
Scope inflation means billing for more work than was actually needed or performed. This includes demolishing materials that could have been dried in place, replacing equipment that needed only minor repair, and treating undamaged areas as if they were affected.
Insurance Adjuster Alignment
Some restoration companies have relationships with insurance adjusters that benefit both parties at the homeowner's expense. Adjusters accept inflated estimates, policyholders pay higher deductibles, and both the contractor and insurer benefit. ClaimCure gives homeowners an independent data point to challenge these arrangements.
Our Methodology
ClaimCure's analysis is based on three data sources:
- Xactimate National Rate Database - The industry-standard pricing tool for restoration estimates. We maintain a current database of all codes and rates, updated quarterly.
- Cost-of-Living Index - National rates adjusted for each city using Bureau of Labor Statistics cost-of-living data. A restoration job in San Francisco costs more than the same job in Memphis - our benchmarks reflect that.
- Ghost Fee Registry - A database of documented ghost fees compiled from homeowner-submitted estimates across 500+ cities. We track which fees appear in which markets and at what frequencies.
Every audit compares your estimate line by line against these benchmarks. Overcharges are documented with specific Xactimate code references. Ghost fees are flagged with descriptions of why they lack legitimate basis.
Our Independence
ClaimCure is not affiliated with any restoration contractor, insurance company, or insurance adjuster organization. We have no referral relationships with contractors. Our revenue comes exclusively from homeowners who pay for audits.
We will never recommend a specific contractor. We will never accept payment from a contractor for referrals. Our only interest is in giving homeowners accurate information about what their restoration should cost.
